Handsfree
Handsfree collects no personal data, and its developer operates no servers. The app is a client for a "bridge" you run on your own computer — your prompts, the agent's replies, your voice, and any photos travel between your phone and your own machine, never to us. Your coding agent runs on that computer and connects to your chosen AI provider (such as Anthropic or OpenAI) under your own account — Handsfree is never in the middle of that. Speech is transcribed on your device. The only third-party service in the app is RevenueCat, for the optional tip.
What is sent: the messages you type or speak.
Where it goes: to your coding agent on your own computer, which sends it to your AI provider — Anthropic (Claude Code) or OpenAI (Codex) — under your own account and their privacy policy. None of it goes to Handsfree's developer.
This policy describes how Handsfree ("Handsfree", "the app") handles information when you use it. Handsfree is developed and distributed by Contrast Studio LLC, a California limited liability company ("we", "us"). We've written this policy to be as clear and direct as possible.
None directly. Handsfree has no accounts and no sign-in, uses no analytics, and sends no data to our servers — we operate none. The app works by connecting to a companion "bridge" program that you run on your own computer.
Handsfree pairs with an open-source bridge program running on your own computer, over your local network or your private Tailscale network, by scanning a QR code the bridge displays. Once paired, your prompts, the coding agent's replies, conversation and session data, and any photos you attach travel directly between your iPhone and your own computer.
This data does not pass through Contrast Studio. We run no servers and never receive your messages, voice, or conversations. The bridge's network address and pairing token are stored locally on your device so the app can reconnect.
Microphone access is used for voice input when you turn on voice mode. Your speech is transcribed entirely on your device using iOS's on-device speech recognition — your audio is not sent to Apple or to us. The resulting text is sent to your own computer (the bridge) as your message, exactly as if you had typed it.
Camera access is used to scan the bridge's pairing QR code and, if you choose, to attach a photo to a message. Any photo you attach is sent to your own computer (the bridge) as part of your message. Photos are not stored or transmitted by us.
Handsfree is a remote control for a coding agent — such as Claude Code (by Anthropic) or Codex (by OpenAI) — that runs on your own computer. When you send a message, that agent processes it on your machine.
What may be sent to an AI provider, and to whom. To produce a response, your agent may send the text of your messages to the AI provider it is configured to use (for example Anthropic for Claude or OpenAI for Codex) — under your own account, API key or subscription, and agreement with that provider. This is the same connection that running Claude Code or Codex directly on your computer would make: it is initiated by your software under your account, not by Handsfree.
Handsfree's developer operates no servers, never receives this data, and does not control or store what your agent sends. Please review your AI provider's privacy policy for how they handle what you send them — for example Anthropic's Privacy Policy or OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
Handsfree is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Apple.
Your settings and preferences (appearance, voice language, voice selection, sound and haptic cues, permission modes, etc.) and your bridge pairing details are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. None of this is transmitted to us.
Handsfree may schedule local notifications on your device — for example, to let you know the coding agent needs your attention. These are generated on your device. Handsfree does not use push notifications and operates no notification servers.
Handsfree uses RevenueCat to manage the optional "tip the developer" in-app purchase. RevenueCat processes a limited set of non-personal data to verify and record that purchase:
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, messages, voice, photos, or any data from your bridge. Actual payment processing is handled entirely by Apple — Handsfree and RevenueCat never see your payment details.
For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy. No advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs are used.
Handsfree does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The only third-party data processing (RevenueCat) involves anonymous purchase identifiers with no personal information attached.
Because Handsfree does not collect personal information, there is generally no data for us to access, correct, or delete. That said, residents of California (CCPA / CPRA), the EU and UK (GDPR), and similar jurisdictions retain the following rights:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@contraststudio.app. For data held by RevenueCat (the anonymous identifier and purchase metadata listed above), please refer to RevenueCat's privacy policy for their direct deletion process.
If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
